I read some of the reviews before purchasing and a few said something about plastic parts. There was no plastic at all and no rough edges, which I also read. This is a great handle set. Installed easily with the template provided. Not sure about direct sun constantly but my old fiberglass door didn’t make it after 6 years so I don’t have any expectations! I love it and it has the old barn house feel to it. Simple and sturdy with quality for the price!

This unit is easy to use. However, if you have someone in the home who struggles with either visual impairment or hand dexterity and lacks the coordination to perform multiple step tasks with their hands, make sure to try and place the unit with the center screw and see if the person can release it and open the unit easily.
If they are unable to easily open this unit with practice and in adequate light, you certainly don’t want them struggling to open the door under emergency circumstances or while under pressure in poor light conditions. P
If the door you are going to place this on is a typical “Right Hand Door”, this means when facing the door from the outside, the hinge is on the right hand side of the door and the door would swing into the building. Since this device installs on the interior door jamb, the device actually slides to the left to release and then pivots on the hinge to the right to swing out of the way of the door. Just make anyone who would need to open the door for safe exit or entry can operate this device. It’s not complicated, but it can require the door to be pushed in slightly to release the pressure which might be against the device when properly installed.
You certainly wouldn’t want someone trapped inside and unable to open the door because they lack the eye hand function or coordination / dexterity to safely open the door.
I bought two of these and installed one 14″ down from the top of the door and the second one was positioned so the bottom is 14″ from the floor. These two add a lot of holding power to the door and it adds to the lock and handle which should be holding the door already.
I like the fact the unit is self contained and swings out of the way when the door is opened. Once the door is closed, you simply swing the unit over the door and slide it till it snaps towards the jamb. The design of the cam provides the snap movement which both secures the unit when its holding the door closed and when its pivoted out of the way when the door is open.
I like the design and concept of these. Simple and one unit. I looked at others where you have to remove a piece for the unit to open and then store the piece until needed to lock the door again. While that unit does provide storage of the removed piece, this unit is all one piece and stays together. It’s just a matter of swinging it into place to secure the door or swinging it onto the door jamb side to open the door.
Personally, I would install these in pairs on any door as I did. Ideally, if you maintain the same distance between the door lock and handle and each of these units, one towards the top of the door and the other towards the bottom of the door, then this should provide help in securing the door.
Simple and should be effective. Would this stop someone who was determined to get through the door? It should help deter them at a minimum. Having them is certainly better than not having them………
You might have to mortise the door jamb to recess the unit’s plate so the door will clear. With the door closed and standing inside, see if the units install plate with the screw holes will slide between the door and jamb opening. Chances are that it will. If you can not get the unit between the jamb and door when the door is closed, you certainly will have to mortise the door jamb. This means cutting out enough of the wood to allow you to mount the unit flush with the door jamb. It’s easiest to mortise the door jamb with a small wood chisel and a hammer. There are You Tube video’s to show you how to cut a mortise into a door frame.
Whether you have to mortise the jamb or mount the unit flush, make sure to position it so the door is flush shut with the unit against the inside of the door. Install the center temporary screw and see if you can release and secure the device and open and close the door. Once fitted in place, install the other screws and try the unit again. It’s really that simple.

Four star – not five due to the “guts” not being the best, butt, you get what you pay for. Simple lines and nice to look at, as most reviewers agree. Purchased to RnR/update a failing (grandkids couldn’t squeeze hard enough to open) old school door set with curved handle and a still well functioning dead bolt, so went from two keyed entries to just the deadbolt with this set. Worth noting my set up had three different holes in the door which were covered by existing sets round anchors. Happy the length of this set was long enough to cover all three holes; unfortunately the holes were not in perfect alignment (read some binding and new set ended up not perfectly straight) and sanding and painting of outside of door was required to ensure squareness of this replacement set covered round holes of previous set. Head’s up for those knowing nothing is as ever as easily said as done; outside of your door may need attention to detail to adequately cover up old hardware mark &/or door imprint; important that the three holes are aligned vertically and match the somewhat limited access holes built into new handset. Lastly, do it right, from the start as the interior hardware of this set doesn’t like to be bent to fit – the square hole round peg thing. Yes, in the end my install not perfect and I am unwilling to to do it again as the parts may not go back together again.

So at first we really liked this lock and handle. It looked nice, did the job, not too fussy to install. But now not even 2 months after being installed, the latch mechanism has shifted so far out if place that it licked me in the house. I had to call someone to pick up my son from school until my tradesman partner could get home to get the door open. We had to take the dead bolt off, and even now a locksmith can’t get it to lock smoothly. Not fit for purpose!

Had it a few months now and no problems. Looks great. Wish the key and lock felt more substantial but no problems with it. I read reviews with problems but it sounds like many were high traffic households. Perhaps I haven’t had any problems because I do not have a ton of teenagers going in and out, using it roughly, but maybe I just got lucky. So far no problems. I had my door guys install it but they didn’t complain so I assume it was reasonably easy to install.
UPDATE: a year later and still good.

I settled on this item because I wanted a keyless method to secure the door that didn’t require drilling in the floor or extensive modifications to the door or jamb to work. This fit the bill on both accounts.
Pros:
* Excellent fit and finish; it also locks and unlocks smoothly. I haven’t had any direct experience with the cheaper knockoffs of this design available on Amazon, but it clearly doesn’t suffer from the major shortcomings that the knockoffs have in their reviews.
* It comes with 3″ security screws to ensure penetration to the stud beyond the thin door jamb.
* It has a quality rubber face to avoid marring the door finish if opened against.
* It’s easy to unlock if you need to escape an inside emergency, such as a fire.
Cons – none, really.
Notes:
* This lock will work on any exterior door that opens into your home. Note that the design will work on the interior side only. Some floor mount designs will work on either side.
* The lock (and any other like it) will only be as strong as your door jamb. If you use short screws to simply mount the lock to thin material, the jamb will give way during a door kick (the lock won’t open, but the mount will split). Use 3″-4″ screws to mount through the jamb and into the stud beyond.
* One lock will do the job, but mounting two about 18″ above and below the door latch would make the door just about impervious. The only thing stronger would be mounting a strongback across the door.
Bottom line – great, cost effective solution

The deadbolt mechanism is not smooth and all handle edges is too sharp and get injured easily, the quality is really not up to standard as this price point. It doesn’t like German standard.
