Description
Sink your teeth into these savory explosions! Flaky biscuits hug taco-spiced ground beef and melty cheese. Quick prep (brown the beef!) leads to oven perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 (10.2 oz) tube refrigerated flaky biscuits (8 count)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese blend
- 1/2 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
- 1/4 cup ketchup or tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brown the ground beef and chopped onion in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain any excess grease, then stir in the taco seasoning and ketchup/tomato sauce. Cook for 2 minutes and remove from heat.
- Step 2: On a lightly floured surface, flatten each refrigerated biscuit into a thin, 4-inch circle using your hands or a rolling pin.
- Step 3: Spoon approximately 2 tablespoons of the seasoned beef mixture onto the center of each flattened biscuit, then top the beef with 1 to 2 tablespoons of the shredded cheese blend.
- Step 4: Carefully pull the edges of the biscuit dough up and around the filling, pinching the seams tightly at the top to completely seal the contents and form a ball (the "bomb"). Place the sealed biscuits seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Step 5: In a small bowl, mix the melted butter and garlic powder. Brush the tops of all the biscuit bombs generously with the seasoned butter.
- Step 6: Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the biscuits are puffy and golden brown. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Leftover bombs keep well; store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days, though the biscuit texture is always best enjoyed fresh.
- To restore the flaky crust, reheat leftovers in a 300°F oven or toaster oven for about 8-10 minutes, rather than using the microwave which can make the biscuit soggy.
- These savory bombs are fantastic finger food; serve them alongside sour cream, salsa, or a creamy ranch dressing for an extra flavor kick.
- The critical step is Step 4: make sure you pinch the seams completely closed and tight, as any opening will allow the hot cheese filling to leak out onto the pan.
