Sizzle up this 30-minute Sausage and Cabbage Stir Fry! Crispy smoked sausage, tender cabbage, and savory aromatics unite for a hearty, quick skillet meal. Full instructions & nutrition info included.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced into 1/2-inch rounds
- 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium head green cabbage (about 2 lbs), cored and roughly chopped
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Step 1: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced smoked sausage and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and slightly crispy. Remove the sausage with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving any rendered fat in the pan.
- Step 2: Add the sliced onion to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened and translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.
- Step 3: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Stir fry for 8-12 minutes, tossing frequently, until the cabbage has wilted and reached your desired tenderness, retaining a slight crispness.
- Step 4: Return the cooked sausage to the skillet with the cabbage and onion. Pour in the soy sauce and sprinkle with black pepper. Toss everything together to combine well and heat through for 1-2 minutes.
- Step 5: Serve the Sausage and Cabbage Stir Fry hot immediately.
Notes
- Leftovers keep beautifully in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days, making for quick and easy meal prep.
- Reheat leftovers gently in a skillet over medium heat with a splash of water or broth to help maintain texture, or microwave briefly until just warmed through.
- While fantastic on its own, try serving this savory stir fry over steamed rice or egg noodles to soak up all the delicious juices, or with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for extra crunch.
- For optimal flavor and texture, make sure to get a nice brown on your sausage before removing it; this renders delicious fat that infuses the onion and garlic with incredible depth.
