Description
Craving churros without the guilt? Our Healthy Air Fryer Churro Bites are your perfect snack! Crafted with whole wheat and Greek yogurt, these cinnamon-vanilla treats get delightfully crispy in…
Ingredients
- Whole wheat pastry flour: 1 cup
- Non-fat plain Greek yogurt: 1/2 cup
- Baking powder: 1 teaspoon
- vanilla powder: 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground cinnamon: 1 tablespoon
- Erythritol (or preferred sugar substitute): 1/4 cup
- Cooking oil spray (avocado or coconut): as needed
Instructions
- Step 1: In a medium bowl, combine the whole wheat pastry flour, baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Add the non-fat plain Greek yogurt and alcohol-free vanilla extract. Mix with a spoon or your hands until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add water one tablespoon at a time until it comes together.
- Step 2: Lightly flour a clean surface. Transfer the dough and knead briefly (about 1 minute) until smooth. Divide the dough into 2-3 equal portions. Roll each portion into a long rope, approximately 1/2 inch thick, then cut into 1-inch "bites."
- Step 3: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the churro bites with cooking oil spray and arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they don't overlap. You may need to cook in batches depending on your air fryer size.
- Step 4: Air fry for 8-12 minutes, flipping the bites halfway through, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Cooking time may vary slightly based on your air fryer model.
- Step 5: While the churro bites are air frying, combine the remaining 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon and the 1/4 cup of erythritol (or your preferred sugar substitute) in a shallow dish or bowl, mixing well.
- Step 6: Immediately after removing the hot churro bites from the air fryer, transfer them to the cinnamon-sweetener mixture. Toss gently to coat them completely on all sides. Serve warm.
Notes
- For any delightful leftovers, store your churro bites in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days to maintain their texture.
- To revive your leftover bites, pop them back into the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 2-3 minutes until warmed through and slightly crisp again.
- Elevate your churro experience by serving these warm bites with a side of sugar-free chocolate sauce for dipping, or a dollop of extra plain Greek yogurt mixed with a pinch of cinnamon for a creamy, healthy accompaniment.
- For the best flavor and coating, make sure your cinnamon-sweetener mixture is ready BEFORE the churro bites come out of the air fryer; tossing them while piping hot ensures a perfect, even adherence.
