Description

Savor our Crispy Beef Tacos! Perfectly seasoned ground beef, slow-simmered with onion and garlic, meets golden-fried corn tortillas for an irresistible crunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean)
  • 12 corn tortillas
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (for frying tortillas)
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons store-bought or homemade taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water or beef broth
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Add the finely chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Step 2: Stir in the minced garlic, taco seasoning, and 1/2 cup of water or beef broth. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until most of the liquid has evaporated and the beef is well-seasoned. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  3. Step 3: While the beef simmers, heat 1/2 cup of vegetable oil in a separate medium skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully place one corn tortilla into the oil. Fry for about 15-20 seconds per side until slightly softened.
  4. Step 4: Using tongs, gently fold the softened tortilla in half to create a taco shell shape and continue frying for another 1-2 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy. Remove from oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Repeat with remaining tortillas.
  5. Step 5: Fill each crispy taco shell with the seasoned ground beef. Serve immediately with your favorite taco toppings such as shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, and salsa.

Notes

  • Store leftover seasoned ground beef in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, keeping any crispy shells stored separately at room temperature in a paper bag or loosely covered to maintain their crunch.
  • To reheat, gently warm the beef filling on the stovetop or in the microwave, and for perfectly crisp shells, briefly re-fry them or pop them in a toaster oven until crunchy again before assembling.
  • Elevate your tacos by adding a squeeze of fresh lime juice, a sprinkle of fresh cilantro, or a dollop of your favorite hot sauce for an extra burst of flavor.
  • For a deeper, more aromatic beef filling, briefly toast your taco seasoning in the skillet with the cooked onion and garlic for about 30 seconds before adding the water, which really blooms the spices.
