Description

Whip up this vibrant, sweet-tart Homemade Strawberry Sauce! Just 3 ingredients transform into a luscious topping in minutes. Perfect for pancakes, desserts, or ice cream.

Ingredients

  • Fresh strawberries: 1 pound (about 450g), hulled and sliced or quartered
  • Granulated sugar: 1/4 cup (50g)
  • Fresh lemon juice: 1 tablespoon
  • Water: 1/4 cup
  • Pinch of salt: 1/8 teaspoon
  • alcohol-free vanilla extract: 1/2 teaspoon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the strawberries by hulling them and then slicing or quartering them, depending on your preferred chunkiness for the sauce.
  2. Step 2: Combine all ingredients (strawberries, granulated sugar, fresh lemon juice, water, and salt, plus vanilla powder if using) in a medium saucepan.
  3. Step 3: Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture comes to a gentle simmer.
  4. Step 4: Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently and gently mashing the strawberries with the back of a spoon or a potato masher. Cook until the strawberries have softened and broken down to your desired consistency.
  5. Step 5: Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the strawberry sauce to cool completely at room temperature. The sauce will thicken further as it cools. Once cooled, transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Your homemade strawberry sauce will stay fresh and delicious in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days, making it easy to enjoy all week long!
  • If you prefer your sauce warm, gently reheat it on the stovetop over low heat, stirring frequently, or warm it briefly in the microwave in 30-second intervals until it reaches your desired temperature.
  • Elevate your breakfast or dessert by spooning this vibrant sauce over pancakes, waffles, ice cream, yogurt, cheesecake, or even mix it into your morning oatmeal for a burst of fresh flavor.
  • For a super smooth sauce, use an immersion blender right in the saucepan after cooling, or for a chunkier, more rustic topping, mash less aggressively during cooking to leave more delightful strawberry pieces.
